- Arthur, as played by Clive Owen in the movie King Arthur, is portrayed as a Roman cavalry officer and commander of a Roman cavalry unit in Britain at the close of the Roman occupation in 467 A.D. He and his men guard Hadrian's Wall against the "Woads", a Celtic people who resist Roman rule, roughly based on the historical Picts, led by their mysterious leader Merlin. At the beginning of the film, Arthur and his remaining men Lancelot, Bors, Tristan, Gawain, Galahad and Dagonet , are expecting to be finally released from the service of the Empire after fighting for them for 15 years. However, they are deployed on a final mission by the Bishop to rescue important Romans from capture by the invading Saxons, led. This rescue has to take place because Rome is leaving Britain. The film eludes that Arthur himself is actually half Celt , and his famous sword, Excalibur was originally his father's, which he drew from the tombstone on his burial mound as a in an effort to rescue his mother who died during an attack. Thus his rise as the King of Britons. This sword is an excellent replica of the sword from the movie King Arthur.
